“A Dangerous Encounter”
New York native, Lola, has been sent on a reporting assignment to San Diego, California. A serial killer is on the loose who targets young, blonde-haired women in their early-20s. Fresh-faced Lola, aged 30 with elegant brown hair, sees no problem with accepting the assignment. Thus, upon her arrival, Lola calls an Uber to pick her up from the airport. A man, who appears to be in his mid-twenties, arrives as Lola’s designated driver. The man tells us that his name is Sam and Lola tells Sam about her reporting assignment. We, as the audience, know that Lola has entered into the vehicle of the serial killer, but Lola does not know this information. Instead, she tells Sam that she has temporarily relocated to California until the serial killer is captured. Sam wants to know more about the serial killer, claiming that he has a wife who fits the killer’s preference of capturing younger women with blonde hair. Sam continues to ask Lola questions about the criminal to surmise how far the investigation has progressed. Lola, thinking Sam is a nice guy, invites him for coffee the next morning to show him all of the paperwork she has gathered on the case. Now is the moment for Sam to capture Lola, right? In a suspenseful scene, Sam simply drops Lola off at her hotel and tells her that he will see her in the morning. Guess he does only target blonde women in their early 20s.
The next morning, Lola and Sam meet for coffee and discuss the serial killer’s profile. While providing a description of the women the serial killer has been targeting, Sam eerily replies, “He should change that.” Lola continues to give Sam more information, and Sam tells Lola that he would like to meet again for coffee. After parting ways, Lola decides to visit the murder scene of the serila killer’s first victim (out of a total of five). Arriving on the scene alone, Lola sees a man walking with a blonde woman (who is handcuffed). Without any hesitation, she starts to reach for her phone, but when she looks back up, Sam is staring back at her. She cries,“You’ll never guess what I just saw! I saw him Sam!” However, Lola slowly begins to observe her surroundings and sees that the blonde woman is dead on the ground while Sam holds a knife. Lola tries to run away with Sam in hot pursuit. Lola makes it to a restaurant full of patrons where she calls the cops and tells them everything that she saw. Lola is taken into the Witness Protection Program to be kept safe until the man is captured and a trial can take place.
Thankfully, Sam is eventually captured, but he manages to escape from prison and kidnaps Lola. He confesses his love for her and takes her to his hideout and shows her the photos of his next victims. Lola is forced to play along with Sam’s game to avoid being murdered like the others. Sam takes Lola on a series of trips in which he hopes Lola will fall in love with him and see that he was justified in his killings. Lola, stripped of her phone, has no choice but to follow Sam everywhere he goes. Eventually, Lola starts to see the good in Sam and does, in fact, fall for him. Sam has given up his murderous ways, but he is still on the run. Lola must decide if she should stick with her instincts and turn him in, or give in to her desires and remain on the run with Sam for the rest of their lives.
