October 12th is National Savings Day! Here are some quick tips on how to save money so that your bank account doesn’t read zero at the end of the month.

1. Make A List Before Shopping

Whenever you go shopping, you always end up buying too much or buying the wrong thing. A simple fix: make a list. If you make a list before you go shopping, then you’ll know exactly what to buy and won’t find yourself standing at the register watching with dread as the total goes up. Make a list and stick to it.

2. Wait 24-hours Before Making an Impulse Buy

If you find yourself scrolling online and see something you want, then simply add it to your shopping cart and wait 24-hours before clicking the purchase button. Many times, you’ll find yourself forgetting about the item or realizing that it is unnecessary.

3. Set Up Your Bills on Auto-Pay

By using auto-pay, it ensures that your bills will be paid on time and in the full amount. Don’t add more stress to your life by keeping up with the due dates of your bills, simply have the amount be taken from your account automatically. This helps with saving money as you won’t find yourself owing twice as much when you forget to pay one month.

4. Create a Spending Cap on Presents

When the holidays come around, you find yourself stressed out because you have to find money for gifts, and you don’t want your gifts to be good. Set a spending cap that the entire family has to stick to so you won’t find yourself receiving an xbox when you bought someone a t-shirt.

5. Pack Your Lunch

Whether you’re in college or working a job, pack your lunch. You will save a lot of money by doing this! This is one of the more popular tricks because it works! You could find yourself spending $5 by eating out and only $2.50 by packing. This will add up quickly in the span of a year, and give you extra spending money.

6. Order Water at a Restaurant

When eating out, order water! Water is free at restaurants and this will save you money because drinks at restaurants cost upwards of $3!

7. Use Coupons

Coupons are a great way to save money. Coupons come in the mail or a simple google search and you can find one to use on many products or at restaurants.

8. Use Cash

If you’re going to the grocery store or to a restaurant use money. This way you can’t go over budget! Bring enough money to spend according to the grocery list you’ve made, and you won’t have enough cash to go over.

9. Eat At Home

Instead of eating out, eat at home. This is an easy way to save money. Write a menu for the week and purchase the ingredients you’ll need. Also, you can have leftovers to eat for lunch the next day or two.

10. Save Your Change

Whenever you use cash and get annoying coins, designate a place to save them before throwing them in the bottom of your purse, the floor of you car, or wherever else they may get lost. There are places you can take your coins and turn them into money in which you can put into a savings account.
